MetroWest GLBTQ Youth Organization Receives Grant from Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation

Ten-Month-Old WAGLY Receives First Grant From Major Corporate Foundation

WELLESLEY, Massachusetts (December 7, 2011) – Thanks to a grant from Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation, West Suburban Alliance of Gay and Lesbian Youth, WAGLY, founded in March 2011, has received funding to expand its programming for high school Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer/Questioning (GLBTQ) youth in the Metrowest area.

“Eastern Bank is pleased to support the work of WAGLY as part of our continued commitment to the diverse communities that we serve,” said Bob Rivers, president of Eastern Bank. “We recognize that WAGLY fills an important need in the Metrowest area.”

“The Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation grant will help WAGLY continue to serve the GLBTQ youth from more than 20 Metrowest towns who participate in WAGLY’s programming and we are extremely grateful for the Foundation’s support,” said Rev. Jack Lewis of UUSWH who serves as WAGLY’s Coordinator.

WAGLY offers GLBTQ youth and their allies a place to meet, share common experiences, and support each other through social and educational programs which are youth-led with adult facilitators and mentors. In addition to its weekly meetings, WAGLY is expanding its youth outreach by creating a monthly support program for Metrowest youth who identify as transgender or gender-variant.

Weekly WAGLY meetings are held on non-holiday Mondays at 7 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Wellesley Hills (UUSWH) located at 309 Washington Street in Wellesley Hills, MA.
