With a novel virus like COVID-19, we have to reconsider our plans as scientific information becomes available. What we know right now is that the delta variant of the virus is more infectious than its predecessor and is infecting young people at a higher rate than we’ve seen previously. Moreover, most youth have no choice but to return to schools at this moment, even as districts struggle to put strong mitigation measures in place.
With youth traveling from dozens of local communities to join us—and our youngest participants still ineligible for vaccination—we feel a special responsibility not to serve as a hub for viral spread. Because of this, we’ve decided to hold our regularly scheduled programs virtually until further notice. Links are available on our program pages.
(Please note: Drop-in will return to meeting online. You can join us from 3-6 p.m. on Thursdays at tinyurl.com/DropZoom.)
We’ll be tracking local COVID data and trends and will update you about our plans as they evolve. Our goal is to resume in-person gatherings as soon as we can do so safely.
In the meantime, we’re exploring alternative ways to increase connection. If you would take this 2-minute survey, we’d so appreciate your feedback on your current needs and how we can meet them. The survey can be completed by youth and/or caregivers.
One of the very best parts of being LGBTQ+ is the commitment to community care. We’re making our plans in that spirit and look forward to the time when we can be back together in-person.
If you have any questions about our plans or protocols, please contact Joel Newsome, program manager.
