As OUT MetroWest grew, we relied on local partners to share their spaces for much of our youth programming. In 2015, we also leased a small office space from which we’ve managed our operations and hosted our drop-in hours.
Our programs have continued to expand, however, and we now require a larger, central space to house the bulk of our programming and operations. OUT MetroWest began exploring options for a new home in Framingham in 2019.
Our goal was to find a larger, welcoming space that is accessible to youth, staff, and community members. For two years, we explored many spaces while searching for just the right location—and now we’re excited to share that we’ve found it!
In May 2021, we signed a lease to move into the ātac building at 160 Hollis Street in Framingham. This historic building in downtown Framingham is home to a vibrant local arts organization, and we will occupy space on the upper level with our programs for LGBTQ+ youth. This new location is physically accessible, a five-minute walk from the commuter rail, and features gender inclusive restrooms and ample parking. Most importantly, ātac shares our commitment to the LGBTQ+ community and is excited to share their beautiful space with queer and trans youth. For us, sharing space with an arts organization feels like an exciting gift!
OUT MetroWest is exceptionally grateful to The Sudbury Foundation, who will generously help to cover exciting renovations, plus rent and utilities for three years. We are also grateful to CBT Architects for sharing their expertise, talents, and time with us, and to the many supporters who have generously donated to make this new home a reality.
Our hope is to move in at the start of the 2021-22 school year. We’re currently revamping our program schedule for the new site, as well as planning satellite and virtual meetings to serve youth from across MetroWest. We look forward to sharing updates about our progress. If you have any questions about our upcoming move, please contact executive director Whitney Retallic (she/her).
