Social Media & Benefits for LGBTQ+ Youth – Watch the Recording!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our special lunch event last month on May 11:

Tweens, Teens & Social Media & Benefits for LGBTQ+ Youth with Linda Charmaraman, Ph.D.

It was a joy to gather with 45 attendees for the presentation, a delicious lunch, and guided tours of our beautiful youth program space upstairs!

We were thrilled to have Dr. Linda Charmaraman, Senior Research Scientist and Director of the Youth, Media & Wellbeing Research Lab at the Wellesley Centers for Women share her latest research findings on the benefits of social media for pre-teen and teenaged LGBTQ+ youth.

Dr. Charmaraman touched on the unique experiences of LGBTQ+ youth online – including spending more time on social media sites than their heterosexual peers; using social media to find critical resources, education, and supportive friendships; and being more likely to be part of an online community supporting a social cause they care about.

Click here to watch the recording by Framingham Access TV to hear Dr. Charmaraman’s presentation. You’ll also hear from Executive Director Whitney Retallic, Board Chair Octavio González, and other members of the team — who share ways you can involved in supporting LGBTQ+ youth, including joining us at ‘OUT on the Block on Sunday, June 25 and participating in our Pride Year Round campaign which aims to raise $25,000 by June 30 for year-round, free youth programming. Thanks to a generous parent, 60 new monthly donors will have their first month’s donation matched!
