WAGLY was founded in 2011 as a group for LGBTQ+ and allied high school youth. As a part of the statewide AGLY network, it adopted a name like many of its peers, including groups like BAGLY, BrAGLY, McVAGLY, NAGLY, SShAGLY, and SWAGLY. The AGLY acronym originally stood for “alliance of gay and lesbian youth,” though the groups welcome youth of other LGBTQ+ identities.
While we love being part of the AGLY network, our group for LGBTQ+ high school youth has long needed a name that reflects the diversity of participant identities – we are ace, bi, gay, intersex, lesbian, non-binary, pan, queer, questioning, straight, trans, and so much more. With loving input from youth and staff and community members, we’ve decided that WAGLY will now be known as Prism. The name feels so fitting: prisms disperse light into rainbows!
Our program content remains the same, and we invite high school youth to join us on Monday evenings from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. at tinyurl.com/PrismZoom for social connection and support.
